Under Slung Crane are a great option when supporting steel work is not possible and optimum hook coverage is required.

Harsiddhi Crane Under Slung Crane, also known as under-hung, under-running or suspension cranes are ideal for factories and warehouse facilities that require lots of free space with no obstructions. They make for flexible production flow and improve safety and accessibility when a process requires floor travelling vehicles as well as cranes. This type of crane runs on track beams forming part of the building roof structure and so does not require supportive floor columns. The crane runs on the lower flange of the track beams, which are suspended from the roof or ceiling.

Here's a breakdown of key features and benefits :

Characteristics :

  • Suspended Operation : The crane travels along the lower flange of the runway beams, which are hung from the building's overhead structure.
  • No Floor Columns Required : This design maximizes floor space as it doesn't rely on dedicated support columns for the runway system.
  • Single or Double Girder : Available in configurations with one or two main horizontal beams (girders) depending on the lifting capacity and span requirements.
  • Single or Multi-Span : Can be designed as a single span between two suspension points or as a multi-span system to cover larger areas.
  • Hoist and Trolley : Features a hoist mechanism for lifting and lowering loads, which is mounted on a trolley that moves along the crane girder(s).
  • Operator Control : Can be controlled via a pendant (push-button control hanging from the crane), radio remote control, or an operator cabin (less common for underslung cranes).

Applications :

  • Factories and warehouses where clear floor space is essential.
  • Assembly lines and manufacturing facilities.
  • Maintenance hangars (e.g., for aircraft).
  • Workshops and fabrication shops.
  • Areas with complex building structures or limited headroom.

Things to Consider :

  • Roof Structure Capacity : The existing building structure must be capable of supporting the weight of the crane and the loads it will lift. Structural analysis is crucial.
  • Load Limitations : Generally better suited for lighter to medium capacity lifting compared to some heavy-duty top-running cranes.
  • Potential for Sway : Loads suspended from an underslung crane might be more prone to swaying, although modern cranes often incorporate sway control features.

n summary, an underslung crane is a versatile and space-efficient lifting solution that utilizes the overhead structure of a building for support, making it ideal for applications where maximizing floor space and adapting to existing building constraints are important.
